Richard started using drugs at a young age. “I wasn't addicted, but it helped me escape a very traumatic home life.”
As an adult living on the streets, Richard’s lifelong drug use intensified. “I didn’t care about anybody, or if anybody cared about me.
“A half hour later, the Mission’s Search & Rescue team found me sleeping on a piece of cardboard. They asked what was going on in my life and how they could help. That night I got involved with the Mission and I haven't left since.”
Drug-free and a graduate of our Men's Recovery Program, today Richard works at the Mission as our Emergency Outreach Administrator. Almost every day he hits the streets, reaching out to our homeless brothers and sisters, often driving the same Search & Rescue van that found him.
