WHAT: 50 Homeless Men in Recovery Receive Spring Renewal Makeover
Hope Springs Anew as Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission provides free haircuts and suit/clothing for upcoming recovery graduation and Easter events.
Hair and wardrobe stylists from Gene Juarez and Styled Seattle volunteer their services to transform 50 men currently in recovery programs at Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission. Men share their photos, stories of homelessness and addiction BEFORE their springtime makeovers; AFTER, the men will be ready for a fresh start with a new style for their upcoming graduation and Easter events.

& WHEN: Tuesday, April 16, 9:30 AM–12 noon: Makeovers
Wednesday, April 17, 9:30 AM–12 noon: Makeovers
Groups of 2-4 men at a time receive makeovers every 30-60 minutes.
- Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission Recovery Program Facility – BURIEN
At Riverton Place – 3020 South 128th Street, Burien, WA
Thursday, April 18, 6–8:30 PM: Men’s Recovery Program Graduation
Men wearing new suits and fresh look celebrate progress/graduate from program
- Mission Theater – 3800 South Othello Street, Seattle, WA – RAINIER VALLEY
Graduation B-roll available Friday morning
WHO:
- Eric: Age 36. Homeless half his life. Slowly built relationship with Search & Rescue team in Kent, and later came into program. Graduates from Recovery Program 4/18. Excellent job prospects.
- Shadow: Age 28. Homeless and addicted to heroin. Graduates 4/18. Now an avid runner with Mission Fitness Program.
- Mark: Age 49. Built relationship with Search & Rescue Outreach staff and abandoned tent/street life near Safeco field. Graduated Recovery Program in 2017. Lives/works at Mission. Attends classes in Human Services field.
- James, Angel, and Anthony: All currently in recovery. All available to share their stories of homelessness, addiction, illness, and what a personal springtime makeover means to them.
